About Us

Mayuri academy of performing arts (MAPA) was established in 2003, by the guru Natya Ilavarasi Smt. S.Vijayalakshmi Bhoopathi. Our academy imparts  Bharatham training in Thanjavur style, in its pure and traditional form. The members of MAPA students are from grade one to  professionals. Students learn the language of Gestures, movements and Indian mythology along with BHARATHANATYAM.

Our academy students dance performance was highly acclaimed subsequently we were invited to perform in various Government functions, Universities centenary functions, TV shows, and in Chennayil Thiruvayaru.

It was our privilege bestowed on us by the management of the Kalaivanar Aranga  to have chosen us to perform the soul bharathanatyam to inaugurate the renovated kalaivanar Arangam. Our academy students mastery has been recorded in India Book of Records, Asia Book of Records and  in Assist World Records by 15 students dancing continuously 30 hrs for 1330 Thirukkural with the title- “Valluvam Kanda Bharatham”. Her eminence has also been recorded in Guinness world records with the title- “VIDHAIKALAM” (798 people dancing with sword).

My guru Mrs. S.Vijayalakshmi  Bhoopathi mam is a great teacher and her greatness as a teacher lies in her dreams for others. Her meticulous eye for detail never misses the slightest of flaws, and she never ever compromises on quality. She can inspire the most ordinary of the students to achieve heights to unknown to them, only through her selfless, sincere and dedicated efforts highlighted by discipline.I am the 1st student of this Academy to join in the year of 2003.For the past 15 years I have been the part of this academy to learn each and every moments of life through Bharathanathyam like decision taking, concentration and it  improved my stamina. I won the 1st prize in dance competition which was conducted in my college culturals, SRM Dental college,Ramapuram. I am so much grateful  to Mayuri Academy of Performing Arts  because I was recognized by this dance to the entire college. This academy paved me into a successful path which gave me a lot of opportunities to show case my talents.

Student of MAPA.

Before 2012, I was a home maker. One fine day I was impressed after reading the article on Rani magazine by Vijayalakshmi Bhoopathi. So I  joined a fast track Bharathanatyam course since I had my family commitments and will not be able to continue for long. I completed my Arangetram  in mid of july’2013 in Krishnagana sabha. Now I am running my own  dance school in Porur. So thanks to Mayuri Academy to explore my talents and made me the Dance Guru.
